BWINDI IMPENETRABLE NATIONAL PARK

Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park is located in the south western part of Uganda, it is covered by tropical rain forests. The forest has a variety of Primates and other animal species such as elephants, francolins, African black duck’s black bee eaters but it is most especially harbored by gorillas thus being famous for gorilla trekking. Its name was derived from the Runyakitara word Mubwindi.

 

ACTIVITIES IN BWINDI IMPENETRABLE NATIONAL PARK.

Gorilla trekking

Bwindi Impenetrable national park is inhabited by gorilla’s that are about 459 in number, these live in different sectors of the park including Buhoma, Rushaga, Ruhija,Nkuringo and Mugahinga. This activity requires one to do it with the guidance of the rangers and tour guides. Gorilla trekking attracts large numbers of tourist because these Mountain Gorillas are an endangered species fearing for their extinction and in that process they get to see the beautiful flora and fauna of the park, different beautiful butterflies flying around the air plus different bird species.

Forest walks/ Nature walks

This activity enables the tourists to explore the forest get to meet animals of different kinds and birds, this can only be done with help of an experienced guide that has knowledge about the animals in the park for security and learning purposes. This activity usually takes 3-4 hours and more. The Munyanga River trail also takes visitors to the beautiful waterfalls of the park. It is one of the most satisfying activities since tourists get to see the wildlife closely on that ground movement

Bird watching

This national park has over 350 bird species which are very interesting and beautiful to look at as you listen to sweet sounds of the birds in the air. It has a number of rare bird species for example African Green Broadbill, short tailed warbler, blue headed sunbird, Rwenzori night jar plus many others remember to carry your camera to take beautiful pictures of these birds to keep memories of this tour. This is a must do activity for bird lovers

Gorilla habituation experience.

This refers to a process were Gorillas are trained to get used and well conversant with human being’s presence for easy trekking. This activity is done by scientists, researchers and tour guides it takes 2-3 years to be perfectly completed and this is done in Rushaga sector southern part of Bwindi Impenetrable forest national park. This activity can only resume after you have been briefed at the headquarters about the dos and don’ts of this activity for safety purposes, you will get a chance to see other wild animals in the daily livelihood from the gorillas for example African black ducks, black bee eaters, black and white colobus monkey, different butterflies and various kinds of plants species.

Batwa community experience

This is one of the most entertaining part of the tour, during the encounter with the Batwa people who were initially living in the forest as their home they will showcase their way of living through different activities like how they cooked using friction fire made by rubbing sticks together, how they survived on hunting and fruit gathering illustrating the use of some plants as traditional herbs and medicine to cure the various diseases they encounter while in their village communities. Enjoy the moments there as you listen to their ancient stories as they also talk about their origin and background and also lastly entertainment from their traditional songs and dances. Mountain biking

This is one of the most thrilling activities done in Bwindi Impenetrable forest. This is well done from the Buhoma sector since it’s the most appropriate for biking. This is usually done with the help of biking guide, visitors get to explore and see a variety of vegetation and butterflies. The biking usually takes around 6-7 hours during this biking the tourists get to interact with local community. This biking activity is headed by a group of women called Ride 4, they make sure these bicycles are kept in good condition and serviced for other tourists to use as they enjoy the breeze of the tropical rain forests in Bwindi Impenetrable national park.
