5-DAY MOUNT ELGON TREKKING BUSHIYI TRAIL

After breakfast in Kampala, set off on a scenic drive towards Mount Elgon National Park, passing through Jinja and Mbale while enjoying views of the lush countryside. Arrive in Mbale for lunch. After lunch, continue to Bushiyi village, the starting point of your adventure. Upon arrival, check in to your accommodation and meet your trekking guide for a detailed briefing on the trail, safety guidelines, and what to expect in the coming days. Spend the rest of the evening preparing your gear, enjoying the serene surroundings, and unwinding with a hearty dinner before a well-deserved rest in anticipation of the trek ahead.

After breakfast, begin your trek from Bushiyi at approximately 1,250m above sea level. Hike through lush farmlands, coffee plantations, and dense montane forest, encountering beautiful waterfalls along the way. Stop for lunch at a scenic resting point before continuing the ascent. As you ascend, the terrain gradually changes to bamboo forests and heath zones. Reach Mude Camp (3,500m), where you will set up for the night, have dinner, and rest under the stars.

After an early breakfast, start your ascent to Wagagai Peak, the highest point on Mount Elgon. The trail takes you through rocky landscapes, moorlands, and stunning caldera views. Upon reaching the summit, take in the breathtaking panoramic scenery before descending back to Mude Camp, stopping for lunch along the way. Enjoy dinner and an overnight stay at Mude Camp.

After breakfast, descend through the scenic moorlands and bamboo forests, following the Sasa Trail towards Sasa River Camp (2,900m). Stop for lunch at a picturesque spot before continuing the trek. Enjoy sightings of unique bird species and occasional wildlife such as duikers and colobus monkeys. Set up camp, relax, and enjoy dinner as you reflect on the day’s adventure.

After breakfast, continue your descent through lush forests and community farmlands towards Bumasola, where the trek concludes. Meet your transfer vehicle and proceed to Mbale for lunch. After lunch, embark on a scenic journey back to Kampala, arriving in the evening, marking the end of your adventure.
